Bumps On Buttocks Crack Sores

According to doctors at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, bumps on the buttocks may be due to an allergy caused by the chemical preservative MI (methylisothiazolinone), found in moistened flushable wipes. For some people, these wipes can cause allergic contact dermatitis, according to research published in JAMA Dermatology.

Intertrigo is common in the skin between the buttocks (butt crack), which can become very raw, itchy, and painful. It may appear red or reddish-brown, and in severe cases, the skin can crack, bleed, and produce a foul odor.

Jock itch can affect the skin around your groin, inner thighs and butt crack. Your skin may appear irritated (red, purple, gray, tan or white), scaly or flaky. Your skin may also develop small bumps or blisters.

A pilonidal cyst (pahy-luh-nayd-l sist) is a cavity or hole in the skin at the top part of your buttocks where the cheeks come together, at the cleft / crack. You may see lots of coarse hair stuck into the skin at this hole.

Unfortunately, the virus can still be transmitted even when someone does not have active lesions. Therefore, safe sex practices such as using a condom should be used between outbreaks, even if no sores are present on the lower back or buttocks.

There are several reasons why bumps and blemishes form on the butt, from everyday irritation to more urgent health concerns. It's pretty common to get regular pimples on your butt cheeks, just like the kind you get on your face and back. (More on that below.) On the not-so-benign side of the spectrum, watch out for bumps on the butt cheek that are painful, bloody, or itchy, Dr. Purvisha Patel, M.D., a board-certified dermatologist, tells Bustle. There are sores, lesions, and even sexually transmitted infections (STIs) that can appear around the buttocks region, and it may require the help of a doctor.

When you think of herpes, you might imagine lip sores or bumps on the genitals. And while those are symptoms of this incredibly common virus, sores can crop up in other areas, too, like your buttocks, anus, and thighs.

Intertrigo can also affect the skin between the buttocks. The affected skin will often be very raw and may itch or ooze. In severe cases, intertrigo may cause a foul odor, and the skin may crack and bleed.

Most importantly you should know that, typically, breakouts on your butt aren't actually acne. "Acne on the buttocks is typically not considered to be true acne, but another form of skin irritation called folliculitis," says board-certified dermatologist Michele Green, M.D., who is based in New York City. "Folliculitis occurs when there is irritation of the hair follicles of the skin, creating red bumps that closely resemble acne lesions."

Molluscum is spread by skin-to-skin contact, including sexual contact and is not harmful. If passed through sexual contact, painless bumps appear on the abdomen, groin, genitals, buttocks, or thighs two weeks to six months after contact.

Infection with herpes simplex virus Type 2 usually results in sores on the buttocks, penis, vagina or cervix, two to twenty days after contact with an infected person. Sexual intercourse is the most frequent means of getting the infection. Both primary and repeat attacks can cause problems including; a minor rash or itching, painful sores, fever, aching muscles and a burning sensation during urination. HSV Type 2 may also occur in locations other than the genital area, but is usually found below the waist.
